Amazon is getting into home appliances
Amazon is planning to open its own kitchen appliance store in the coming months, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The grocery giant will begin shipping appliances at its new store, according to The Wall Street Review.
The move would mark Amazon’s first foray into the home appliance market, which is dominated by larger competitors like Walmart and Kroger.
Amazon plans to open the appliance store at its downtown Seattle headquarters next year.
It has also announced plans to build an Amazon campus in Austin, Texas.
The Austin campus is being built by Google and will be home to thousands of jobs.
In a statement, Amazon said it “will have a dedicated home appliance team that will focus on our Amazon Prime program, helping customers find, buy and service all of their favorite home appliances at great prices.”
The Amazon Prime home appliances program will provide customers with a better shopping experience, and is the largest and most affordable home appliance purchase program on the planet,” Amazon said.
The company has long been focused on selling products in its own stores.
In April, Amazon announced plans for a second headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the company hopes to employ up to 1,000 people.
Amazon is currently working on the purchase of a site in Seattle.
