Apple and Amazon open new online stores to complement their respective app stores
Apple and the big five app developers are opening up a new online store and shopping portal for their app stores, the company has announced.
The online portal will be built using the same platform as Apple’s retail stores, which are the most popular app store in the world.
“Today, we’re opening our first store in a major market: Amazon, where you can buy Apple products with a wide variety of Apple Pay cards,” said Jeff Williams, senior vice president of software at Apple.
“In partnership with the best retailers in the industry, we’ll be offering thousands of products and services at the same time.”
Apple’s stores are also opening up new payment options, which is something Amazon has not done yet.
“Amazon’s store, for example, offers Apple Pay payments through their online app,” said Williams.
“The stores also have a variety of Amazon items in stock and in stock to make it easy for customers to pick and choose from.
We’re also adding a new Apple Watch and a range of accessories and accessories, including a limited-edition leather-wrapped Apple Watch.
We look forward to seeing what you build there.”
In the past, Apple and Apple Pay have been integrated into the same app store.
“We know that many customers have a lot of use for both Apple Pay and Amazon Pay, so we’re looking forward to bringing both apps together to bring customers even more value and convenience,” said Richard Anderson, senior VP of retail at Apple, in a statement.
According to Apple, the Apple Watch app will be available to download and install within an hour of it being released.
Amazon is also launching its own store in partnership with Apple’s Apple Store.
“Amazon’s app will have a familiar, simple and intuitive design that’s easily integrated into your Apple Watch experience, as well as more than 60,000 products, ranging from music, books and more, to household goods like cleaning supplies, electronics, and more,” said Brian May, Amazon’s vice president for ecommerce and product management.
In an effort to bring more customers in, Amazon will also be offering a number of Amazon apps that are designed to simplify shopping and simplify purchases, such as Amazon Video.
Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft are also planning to expand their own online retail stores in 2018.
“We are committed to growing our retail footprint, and the launch of the Apple App Store opens a new chapter for our stores, where we will continue to deliver the best Apple experiences, including exclusive discounts, and new products and experiences that help our customers make better choices,” said Kevin Plank, vice president and general manager of retail for Apple, in a statement to AppleInsider.
