How to find your next camping store: Abc store locations
The National Camping & Outdoor Retailers Association is calling on retailers to start opening new stores in the coming months.
The organization says retailers have been offering camping and outdoor gear at discounted prices to customers since 2011, but that there’s been “an overall lack of awareness of the importance of camping in the marketplace.”
The group says the lack of visibility and competition for new stores has forced retailers to focus on getting into the industry as fast as possible.
“Consumers have no idea how important camping is in their lives,” said Scott DeCecco, executive director of the association.
“That is something that is increasingly important for all retailers, and retailers have a lot of work to do.”
DeCecca says a major reason retailers aren’t opening new campsites is because of the high cost of buying and maintaining camping gear.
He said that is something the retail industry has to address if it wants to stay relevant.
“We need to figure out how to make this a little bit cheaper,” DeCeco said.
The association says new stores will be able to attract more customers, because they will be closer to their customers, but it is unclear whether that will be enough to lure a new market.
“We think this is a very, very challenging time in retail,” DeCucco said of the industry.
“We’re going to need to continue to work on building relationships and making sure that we’re building out the right retail strategy.
That’s the number one thing we want to focus our efforts on.”
